A Winter Elopement or Intimate Wedding is absolutely stunning and beautiful! The snow, the cold cuddles, and the intricate ice designs from Jack Frost are all dazzling components of Winter Weddings. That said, here are my top 5 simple tips for staying warm during your Winter Elopement!
Tip #1: Bring a big jacket.
There are two ways to go with this tip! If the glamorous and classy winter jacket over the wedding dress appeals to you, go for it! It can be so stunning! This is a great way for you to stay warm while getting married to the love of your life, and while looking fabulous. I definitely recommend this for a Winter Elopement.
The second part of this tip is for the people who don’t want to incorporate a jacket into their ensemble.I always suggest to my couples to bring a big warm jacket anyways, and then I use an approach I like to call clumping. You’ll be wearing the jacket in between shots. You’ll put the jacket on, I’ll explain a couple of poses to you, and then when you’re warm, we’ll take the jacket off and we’ll do those couple of poses! And then repeat the process! I love this because it gives you a chance to warm up, while still utilizing our time together. I also use this time to continue to get to know you better!
Tip #2: Wear boots and have layers.
This tip is an absolute lifesaver! It is the worst when you are laughing and having a great time, and then realize how frozen your feet are. Wear boots! For the grooms, I suggest picking boots that match with the suit, that way it blends together and looks great (black suit, black snow boots, etc). For the brides, it is pretty easy to hide your shoe choice under your dress, but pick ones that are warm and you feel like they match you. Boot pictures in wedding attire are gorgeous!
Generally, the groom is warmer than the bride, as they have pants and a jacket. My next tip is mostly for brides but can be applied to grooms. Wear leggings underneath your dress! No one will be able to tell, and it will keep you so much warmer! Find other areas where you can add in layers as well, it really is so much warmer!
Tip #3: Bring hand warmers.
Personally, I don’t appreciate hand warmers enough. There are a million times when I think “oh I don’t need those”, and I do. I very much do. They are super small and easy to hide in pockets but can make the difference between hard-to-move fingers and fingers that can hold hands and put rings on each other. Don’t forget this tip like I do. *insert facepalm emoji
Tip #4: Hot Chocolate and a fire.
This tip can be incorporated several different ways, and I love each option. The first option, have a complimentary guest hot chocolate bar, where you can add in all your favorites and additives. The second option is right after the ceremony sneak away and have a private hot chocolate ceremony – with your photographer of course because these types of photos are so dreamyyy.
I also suggest having a fire (where applicable) to have yourselves and your guests warm up by. You could even incorporate a smore’s station. There are so many possibilities for this one! Whatever feels like it fits the two of you best.
Tip #5: Embrace the cold.
Winter Elopements are stunning and so intimate. The cold can often lead to more cuddly and close photographs, which are so beautiful to look back on. Embrace the cold and have the best time!
