If you are considering eloping, or have made the decision to elope; congratulations! Eloping is such an intimate and personal decision! There are so many hesitations to eloping, one of the main ones being “how do I incorporate my loved ones and traditions?” For ways to incorporate your loved ones, visit Ways to incorporate loved ones while Eloping. As for ways to incorporate tradition while eloping, I am excited to share some of my favorite ways that I have seen couples do this!
Reception
While eloping is generally the two of you, or the two of you with your closest family and friends, and I have heard of couples who elope and then hold a reception where more their family and friends come and celebrate them. This reception can happen on the evening of the elopement, or even weeks or months afterward. I’ve also seen couples who hold a big dinner/banquet after their elopement with their family and friends. To read more on this idea, check out my other blog on incorporating loved ones in your elopement.
Something Old, New, Borrowed, and Blue
This beautiful tradition is something that can be so sweet if it is intentional. I’ve seen brides who put a lot of thought into this tradition, and so it meant the world to them on their wedding day to have these items incorporated on their day. Others, I’ve seen it be more of a tradition that is a sweet thought but has other things meaningful to them. Both ways are totally okay! It’s just up to you and what you want.
Some brides will have a blue piece of cloth from a loved one wrapped around their bouquet. Or a borrowed hairpiece or accessory from a loved one who wasn’t able to make it to the wedding, or just something they have admired their entire life that is a loved one. If you are interested in this, let’s chat! I can give you some sweet ideas on ways to incorporate this!
First Look
Who doesn’t love a good first look?? If you’re thinking about doing this, this is a great tradition to consider while eloping! You both can get ready at separate locations, and then meet up in a beautiful spot ahead of time to do a first look.
If you’re not on board with this tradition, there are many cute getting-ready pictures where the bride and groom help each other get ready. It really is up to your preference!
Being Announced
This tradition generally works more on larger elopements, where family and friends are also there. Traditionally, couples are announced on their way to reception as the new Mr. and Mrs. This can happen right after the ceremony has been completed.
First Dance
First dances are one of the sweetest traditions and one that I encourage everyone to do! It is so endearing to hold your loved one, especially after exchanging vows. This gives you a chance to pick a song that means a lot to the two of you, and a way to celebrate that “just married” vibe.
These are some of my top ways to incorporate tradition with eloping. If you are eloping or thinking about eloping, reach out! I would love to be a part of your beautiful day and help plan in any way that I can!
