This edition will feature the Osprey.

BIRDING TIPS:

The Osprey is in the Diurnal Rapture family. Osprey generally migrants and arrives in Maricopa County during the fall and winter months.

COLOR:  Adult will have white underparts and blackish brown wings.   Suggestion:  Refer to the photos located in the “OUTDOOR PHOGRAPHY” section of the website and study  the conformation and color pattern.


MALE VS FEMALE:  Female is larger than the male, the Juvenile Osprey will display white tips on the wings feathers (refer to photos)

DIET:  Primarily fish, when fish are scarce the Osprey will hunt for rodents, Note: The Osprey will dive into water to catch fish with their talons.  Photos will illustrate holding patterns and the Osprey with a fish in their talons.
